Macs have EFI firmware and support booting GPT volumes. You use a mac. Are external HDD enclosures as good as external HDDs? Or is it something else?

Was just throwing in why i think 2.5" externals over 2tb don't exist. I thought these enclosures basically just provided power to the drive and converted SATA to USB/eSATA.
