Microsoft Zune will not start......

I have a new Gateway DX desktop with Vista 32 bit operating system and recently purchased a Zune 80.  I am having two major problems:
1) When I install the Zune software from the site and I open the software - I get an error message stating"Microsoft Zune will not start"  For the live of me the software will not work on this computer.  However, if I did download to my work laptop an HP and it works fine???????  I have uninstalled and installed numerous times without any improvement.

2) I plug the Zune into ALL 8 of my USB docks and the Gateway will not recongize the Zune ---- however the HP laptop does...............

This driving me batty - need help..................................
