Half Life - OpenGL Or Direct3D
OpenGL The best for the old HL series of games (CS, CZ, DoD, DMC, HL, HL:BS, HL:OF, Ricochet, TFC). + good looking + fastest rendering speed D3D The game is not They get away with it in Portal 2 because of design options that draw attention from functionality not much better looking than games that came out 8 years ago. http://twitter.com/TimberWolf_CLT Marc R Bacon I know that this is off-topic, but IMO "Valve’s distaste for Windows 8" seems to be more driven by the App Store threat to Steam than anything http://about.me/chrisportela Chris Portela Yep, just as I was moving away from Linux and open-source to work on Windows 8 things like this come out… My heart is just too much for have a peek here
Crytek also used this to draw some elements in their games, but it wasn't fully supported. If OGL had become the forerunner back then, then I'm sure _it_ would be the one with the easier/cleaner API, better drivers, better development tools, etc. Rule #8: No Let's Plays or highlight reel videos In addition to this, Youtube links posted by new accounts are filtered due to channel spamming. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1223563048 Angel Ham And I wonder..
Your video card may support some or all of them. Miroslav it does actually, if you payed attention. With Direct3D and openGL, they write differently to the graphics card. Windows 7 plus antivirus, plus antispyware/malware, plus 5 million updates quickly fill a hard drive.
If we can't get DirectX, I really hope that OpenGL pushes ahead and becomes the norm. Devs, want to advertise your game? Well, if "OpenGL" and "D3D" does not give the desired result (which is unlikely), you can check the problematic mod with "Software" render.Тестирование режимов отображения в Half-Life (движок GoldSource): «Software», «OpenGL» Search User Find More Posts by Vonje Find Threads by Vonje 07-17-2010, 06:55 AM #9 pizzahut Join Date: Jan 2003 Reputation: 2073 Posts: 5,274 Quote: Originally Posted by

Thing is, GLQuake was the first serious OpenGL game available for Windows, and MiniGL drivers were crafted specifically for the purpose of running GLQuake.
Apparently OGL stopped being ahead of DX a few years ago.
I'm sorry but the tutorial support of it in comparison to OPENGL is astoundingly bad. D3D9 just has more overhead. well i'm done with bantering i've got more important things to do than talk to people who lick things that fall off ms's… well. I have a very old 533 MHz Pentium 3 with 512 MB RAM that's set up as a dual boot system with both Windows 7 and Debian 6.0 GNU/Linux.
That is, tessellation has been around for years, but as far as hardware goes, there have only been some half-hearted attempts by vendors, which never caught on. navigate here Joel Detrow I believe the Angry Birds performance issues stem from its use of vector graphics, not any sort of inefficient physics engine. Dhiren Khandel How does that help the people that need their games to sell for a living? Valve is just pissed that MS is taking them on with their own App Store.
Chrowle Johnson Yes, ->OPEN<-GL is not open source. Andrew Lanz-O'Brien Go Valve. Some games like a certain APIs implementation better.
Microsoft has good reason to hamper the progress of OpenGL, of course: While DirectX is proprietary and only runs on Windows, Xbox and Windows Phone, OpenGL is completely cross-platform.
Publicado el 9 ago. 2013Testing Half-Life renders (GoldSource renders): "Software", "OpenGL" and "D3D"In most cases, the optimum render is "OpenGL". "D3D" Render (i.e. opengl is an open standard, and supported by most cards and operating systems. This is a vicious loop that again leads to more DX devs, more DX games, and better DX drivers/tools/documentation. Scali Unreal Engine 3 uses DirectX for Windows, despite using OpenGL (ES) for some other platforms it supports.
Secondly, OpenGL on Windows uses an ICD, which means that a lot more stuff is done by the driver than for DX9, and it's easier to optimise these drivers. J. Multiplatform support recently has become and will be a major advantage for an API from now on. this contact form Shorter cited summary and then opinion!
Microsoft isn't going to miss out on making more money. As I mentioned before, a major difference between Direct3D and OpenGL is in the scope of the operations implemented by the driver writers. poqert Hi. D3D has overbrightness, can look like bloom!
They could claim that OGL is the NEW AND GREATEST blah blah blah other marketing BS. have you seen this web site http://LazyCash49.com Jeff Jones I think there's nothing really worth celebrating until we also see Unreal Engine 3/4 and CryEngine 3 released on Linux. All image posts must be in a self/text post with proper context. "Master race" meme language is also prohibited. The API doesn't even get close of the graphic card, memory, processor, or monitor… All that, is done by the OS.
http://www.mrseb.co.uk/ Sebastian Anthony Thanks! It's for Quake and not everything applies in Half-Life. Rule #7: No requests for game suggestions or friend requests Game requests go in our weekend suggestion thread, /r/gamingsuggestions and /r/shouldibuythisgame. fat bastard is as fat bastard does.
Very soon, it might be standard to develop a game that works well across every platform -- rather than focusing on Direct3D and leaving Linux and OS X out in the Sign in to comment Contact GitHub API Training Shop Blog About © 2017 GitHub, Inc.
